The Sugarmill, Stoke-on-Trent 10.10.04

Gig rating: ***/5. They're cited as one of the bands to watch in 2005, which means my debut copy of Oh My God (and the first release on the Drowned in Sound label?) could be accellerating in value in a few months. If they do become popular, there's no doubt this will follow the recent trend of re-releases only a few months after the original e.g. Mr Brightside & Somebody Told Me (The Killers), Spitting Games (Snow Patrol), Thru The Glass (Thirteen Senses) etc. On this evidence they seem to have a couple of good songs, namely Oh My God and I Predict A Riot but there was nothing overly-exciting about this live performance, except for maybe the crazy, spasmodic antics of frontman, Ricky Wilson, and the coolhat adorned by the keyboardist.

    Alex Kapranos..? *click* No.
