Teenage Fanclub Survey
The Results: Would most like the next album to sound like...
Four people simply said, "Teenage Fanclub"!
Three people simply said Grand Prix, as well as the following comments leaning towards the Grand Prix sound and/or a bit less mellow than Howdy!:
- Scarlet Rigby, "More rockin'-in style of Thirteen and Grand Prix. Seems like they keep moving futher anyway from that sort of sound.
They're getting too mellow in their old age! ;)"
- 'Dric, "The crunch of Grand Prix with the hindsight of Howdy."
- Tigerboy, "a bit rockier, somewhere between Bandwagonesque and Grand Prix"
- Phil, "A Bit More Up And At 'Em"
- Georgia, "More of the same great songwriting with a little harder sound than Howdy."
- Alex H, "Grand Prix/Thirteen/SFNB mixture, a bit rockier than Howdy! Come on guys!"
- Brian Saunders, "Back To Basics, Bandwagonesque crossed with Grand Prix with a bit of SFNB. Hopefully a huge worldwide hit for the guys!"
Then there was those who have no strong opinion and seem to love anything TFC do anyway.
- Antaris Duffy, "Whatever they decide it should sound like."
- Doug Brown, "Themselves...no strong opinion...its the evolution of TFC which keeps the interest going."
- nlc, "They can do whatever they like, and I trust it will sound fantastic!"
- Jocelyn, "I enjoy hearing TFC's styles change with each album. I'd like to continue to be happily surprised."
- Sandra, "Hoping they will retain that gorgeous pop sound they are known for."
- Eythor Sverrisson, "Just the way they are."
Two people suggested the next album should be similar to Songs From Northern Britain, while I'll class the rest as miscellaneous!
- Pierre Gouin, "A live album would be perfect."
- Cody Gorman, "more country!"
- Venetia, "mellow."
- Daniel, "Like the BSides from the Dumb Dumb Dumb single."
- Garry, "Grand Prix/Howdy material."
For the uninitiated, explain why you love the Fannies so much:
- Scarlet Rigby, "Because they just have great melodies and lyrics. It's a beautiful combination of both rock and pop.
Plus, they seem like they enjoy making music and performing for their fans."
- Tigerboy, "They're just a bunch of normal guys who write extraordinary pop songs.
A fanclub song can push you to the point where you want to tell somebody that you love them...and mean it."
- Johnathan Chan, "Timeless music, breath taking harmonies. The more you listen to them the better they get.
I can surely say I'll love them 50 years from now."
- Cody Gorman, "Unmitigated fun. You can hear their smiles through the music, just a great bunch of guys…"
- Brian Saunders, "Music is to be enjoyed, not popularised. TFC are one of the few, very few, bands who can still call themselves fans with guitars.
A song for any occasion, a tune for any mood, words cannot express the depth, emotion, harmony and, sometimes, humour of TFC's glorious music.
Listen and all other bands will fall upon their knees."
- Debbie, "They write the perfect pop tunes with unabashed harmonies that make your skin tingle.
And because of their normality, basic fellas making the most perfect tunes. I think they'd be the same no matter their level of fame."
- Doug Brown, "In one word...honesty. Coupled with their integrity which has
seen them shy away from cheap publicity and concentrate on writing music
which they like...and we love."
- Sonia, "I've never had a sad moment listening to the band - they never fail to bring a smile to my face."
- Weetzie, "...when i tried them on, their songs fit like a glove and shed some light in my heart."
- Christopher A. Myers, "They're still playing catchy pop rock songs. They've broughten that wonderful sound of the late 60s and 70s into a sound of their own
that neither rips off the old, and have not fallen into the rap/rock trap."
- Alex H, "Well, firstly, I noticed their music, then also that their lyrics are consistently brilliant and true to life,
you'll notice even more if you read some of them. They seem a great bunch of guys and were amazing when I saw them live.
There's no other band like them, many try to imitate, which can only be a compliment to themselves."
- Paul Miller, "They're brilliant. They've always been so excellent and entertaining live.
They write brilliant songs and I'm assured they are all a lovely bunch of fellas."
- Phil, "Needs No Explanation."
- What was Mike Cottle on about!? "Brian Wilson fronting Sugar !?!?" (that's what he said...)
I haven't included everyone's opinions in the list, as it would have gone on forever, so sorry if your thoughts aren't there!
